I have been looking into ways of helping to protect the environment and i have noticed that there are very few footwear businesses, which can provide either recycled or eco friendly shoes. Do you know of any websites or shop names that i could research? Also is anyone interested in eco friendly shoes? Would you be willing to pay more for this type of product if you knew you were helping to save the environment? All answers are appreciated, i look forward to your answers.
what is the most eco friendly city in California?
Is it in the bay area?

Best answer:

Answer by Kman
San Francisco. It’s residents walk and take public transit more than anywhere in CA, they don’t use energy on heating or cooling, and they pass the most aggressive environmental laws.

SF or NYC is the most eco-friendly city in the US, depending on how you measure it. NYC residents drive far less, but SF residents are greener in every other aspect.

Faith to Sustain Us

God gives us faith to sustain us. No matter what your tragedy is or was, you and I are still here for a reason. You might not realize it, but you are living by faith to sustain you. We can’t see it but God gives it to us to sustain us. We’re still here aren’t we? Why? Because we have faith there must be something more for us. If we didn’t have it we might just choose to end it all. In other words, If this is all there is why keep living? Why spend the little energy we have left from our tragedy to keep on going in a place we don’t want to be anyway?

Thank God Almighty that there is so much more. The reason I keep living is for the “after party”. Why? Because I have faith there is one. Oh and what a party it will be. We will land at the gates of Heaven and the first ones we’ll see there to greet us will be the ones that had to leave earth before us. Our broken hearts will be a thing of the past.

O.K. you might be asking, “how do I get this faith?”. The bible says that it comes by hearing the word of God. So you read the bible and you go to church to hear the minister read it and then your faith is increased. Pray and ask God to carry you in your time of need. Believe me when I tell you that if I didn’t have faith that there is a Heaven I’d leave this world. I lost my beautiful son Josiah when he was only 17 to a semi truck hitting the car he was in. My oldest son Gabriel was in the car following and saw the accident and Josiah died in Gabriel’s arms. 10 months later when it was time for Josiah to graduate high school Gabriel was having a very hard time and took a drug to cope and it killed him. His roommates found him dead at his computer. I want to see my boys so bad. My heart is completely shattered. Josiah was famous for always telling people to “keep on keepin’ on”. I have to keep going to inspire others and then on that special day (when God says it’s time, not me) I will go to Heaven to spend eternity with God and my boys. Compared to eternity this life is a short season, so “keep on keepin on”.

Faith does sustain us. The bible says that if we believe that Jesus is the son of God and died for our sins that we’re saved. I asked Jesus to live in my heart 34 years ago. I’m not perfect just forgiven. We just have to ask Jesus to live in our heart and ask him to help us to live the way we know we should.

Log onto bible.com and look up faith and see all the scriptures there are to help you through. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you on that day that God brings us all home.

Bamboo Flooring is not Eco-Friendly

This is just my opinion, but… I will agree that some of the arguments behind why Bamboo Flooring is eco-friendly may be valid. Okay, so we all get that bamboo is really a grass and not a tree - and yes we know it doesn’t die when it is cut down and harvested. And, therefore it just keeps growing and growing, providing an endless bounty for us all to use and enjoy guilt free. I am here to tell you there are better alternatives. Going from cut down stalks of bamboo half way across the world to flooring in your family rec room is a long and complicated process.

I will agree that wood is the best flooring material bar none in terms of appearance, durability, and bang for the buck. The Greenest answer is wood, but not bamboo fabricated into looking like wood.

Why not bamboo?

Bamboo is generally comes from a long ways away somewhere around the globe. Great, it gets cut down and grows right back, but how much fuel is burned on the two or three week super tanker boat ride the bamboo takes from its source to a port in California? How about the journey from CA to your house? As often is the case with any product manufactured or sourced from across the ocean, the largest percentage of cost to produce the product is actually the cost to ship it from its origin to the final customer. That can apply to flooring, tv’s, food, or whatever… Super tankers run on fossil fuels and chug out a lot of pollution on a trip across the Pacific.

Bamboo needs a lot more than a saw to become flooring. Bamboo flooring is a highly engineered products that requires a lot of energy to process and make into flooring. That process also includes a lot of chemicals, many of which can be toxic and contain VOC’s. Bamboo has to be laminated to stick together to become flooring – remember it is really just a grass and not a solid piece of wood.

And you know what? It doesn’t look very good. For my money it doesn’t look any better than most laminate and is LESS durable. Aside from the eco-cred of appearing to be green, bamboo flooring doesn’t meet the minimum standards of sustainability in my book.

So what to do? the answer is easy – reclaimed wood flooring. From a “green” perspective reclaimed wood flooring is better in everyway. Reclaimed wood can come from old barns or factories or houses that have been torn down. There are a variety of species, providing countless colors, textures, and patterns. White Oak, Red Oak, American Chestnut, Heart Pine, Douglas Fir are just a few… So why do I say reclaimed is better?

Its local – most reclaimed wood comes from sources on the east coast. So even if you are on the west cost it is still closer than the bamboo.

To “manufacture” it, all you need is a sawmill to cut it to the size and shape you want. No complicated, engineered process of chemicals. The options for no VOC finishes are also endless.

If you disagree with my take – I would love to hear from you…

An environmentally-sound home is one that makes less of an impact on the environment. This example of home can incorporate things like energy-efficient appliances or low-e windows to make your home more efficient or maybe even adding more extreme items like solar power or a water recycling system. If you are implementing these modifications now, the neat thing is that many of the technologies cost less now than in the past. If your home is pre-construction, you can choose to have the home designed to take maximum advantage of the natural illumination of the home. Making a home more efficient or buying an eco-friendly home will not only save you money on things like energy bills, but is also the environmentally responsible choice to make.

Solar derived energy is a somewhat new idea. Nonetheless, as a modern-day homeowner you can take advantage of the technology that is available and get the power that you need for your home. The way that solar energy is employed is that solar panels are situated in a place where they can get ample sunlight. These large panels are made of glass and have tubes with water coursing through them. As the sun warms the water in the tubes, it is transformed into energy that you can use for your home. An additional benefit is that the hot water can then be used instead of a hot water unit. Most homeowners position the panels up on the portion of the roof that gets the maximum amount of sunlight. That means that shade from trees needs to be minimized anywhere the panels are installed. Every system is different, but it is possible to derived energy an entire home using solar panels.

Water is a limited resource, so we all need to do our part to use less water. One way of making your water usage more eco-friendly is to have holding tanks where you can store water and then send it through a filtration system where it can then furnish the water needs of your home. This water recycling method is a great way to take care of your yard’s water requirements.

Recycling water can save about eighty percent of the overall water used in many homes. Another easy way to reduce the quantity of water that you are using is to put in a low-flow showerhead. A low-flow showerhead is easy to install and will save hundreds of gallons of water every year. Also, if you have older toilets, upgrading to a modern toilet can also reduce your water usage for the future. When you start to think about the many ways that you can save water, you can perhaps come up with even more.

Eco-friendly homes are the wave of the future. Finding ways to decrease each family’s use of electricity and water is important for all of us. You can make modifications to make your home more earth-friendly that will really make a difference. Recycling, utilizing solar power and monitoring your water use are all great ways to establish your home as a green home.

Answer by runner158
Brooks just recently came out with a line of shoes that has a biodegradable midsole. It is called Biomogo midsole. It is currently available in the Brooks Trance 8 running shoe. It will cost about $ 140 dollars at a retail store, but you could get it at holabirdsports.com for $ 118 and get free shipping. Follow the link below to look at shoes.

I’m having a hard time finding jewelry made from recycled material or that are eco-friendly? I’m looking for a eco conscious necklace and set of earrings.

Best answer:

Answer by Monica
I love eco jewelry too. The website Etsy.com has lots of really interesting jewelry handmade by users for sell. I found a really cool ring there made from a recycled game board piece. If you want something more traditional Urban Ecologie has a few really nice pendant necklaces and chokers.
